For her latest exhibition, Nathalie Perakis-Valat collaborates with Atelier George to unveil a world where light and matter intertwine, where glass and photography meet to reveal the ephemeral beauty of nature through a play of transparency captured by the photographer.
The "Ephemeral Transparencies" series is part of a long tradition of dialogue between art and nature, a dialogue that runs through the history of botanical photography since Anna Atkins and Karl Blossfeldt.
However, it distinguishes itself through a unique approach: the juxtaposition of a rare glassmaking expertise—the blown glass vessels of Atelier George—and a sensitive photographic style developed by Nathalie Perakis-Valat.
These blown glass pieces, resembling glass lenses, reinterpret the "cive" technique, a glassblowing process that was once used to create the first windows and stained glass. Here, the glass acts sometimes as a filter, sometimes as a frame. For the "Ephemeral Transparencies" photoshoot, the Ocelles from Atelier George are superimposed on the lens.
The works are both paintings, pictorial in themselves, and skylights through which one sees beyond, reflecting and projecting. They become translucent membranes where branches and leaves are imprinted like ephemeral stained glass.
This collaboration celebrates the fleeting beauty of life and the fragile poetry of glass, suspending time in a vibration of light and color.
