Laurence Jenkell

Knight of the French Order of Arts and Letters, is a self-taught French contemporary artist known worldwide for her Wrapping Candy sculptures.
Born on December 31, 1965, she lives and works on the Côte d’Azur and opened in 2022 a workshop-gallery in Monaco to exhibit her artworks.
Laurence Jenkell began her artistic journey in the mid-1990s where she experimented different techniques allowing her to master plexiglass and create her technique of torsion “wrapping”.
Thanks to her wrapping technique : literally the rolling of the material on itself associated with the twist of the foil, she created the Candy sculpture, which has become her artistic signature.
For nearly 20 years, Laurence Jenkell has been sculpting brightly coloured candies in different shapes and sizes in materials such as bronze, plexiglass, aluminium, marble, polyester, wood or even Murano glass.
By immersing herself in her childhood, she had the idea more than 20 years ago to erect the Candy into a true work of art.
From the trial and error of her first attempts, often unsuccessful, but with a lot of perseverance and passion, Laurence Jenkell succeeded in taming the material to create her renowned Candy sculpture which has obsessed her for many years.
Through the twist, she expresses her anxieties and exorcises her past to better free herself. More than a medium, the candy interpreted by Laurence Jenkell has become a universal language that takes us back to our childhood. A hymn to the past and to gluttony!
Exhibiting worldwide since 2009 by participating in solo or multi events at different fairs in France (Paris, Cannes, Saint Tropez), Belgium, Monaco, Monte Carlo, Geneva, Norway, Germany, Italy, London, Switzerland, Spain, Slovakia, Azerbaijan, Russia, USA (Miami, New York), Singapore, China (Beijing, Shanghai), Hong Kong, Seoul, Uruguay, Venezuela, Mexico, Istanbul, Riyad, Jordanian, Dubaï….
